ANKYLOS: C/X – the new generation
06-20-2008 | Long-term tissue retention and excellent esthetics
All the advantages of an implant system with 20 years of clinical success combined with an innovation so far unique in implantology: ANKYLOS C/X. The new generation of ANKYLOS now offers the option of indexed or non-indexed prosthetics in only one implant and it also offers a newly designed prosthetic system, a completely redesigned seating procedure and a new packaging concept. ANKYLOS C/X leaves the decision to the implantologist: you can use the index as a positioning aid if this makes the prosthetic procedure easier. Or you can use the tapered connection design with index if this is required by the prosthetic plan. The abutment remains rotation-locked in both cases with the full-contact keyed and friction-locked taper, and it can still be combined as desired. Every abutment fits into every implant.
ANKYLOS C/X – achieve lasting esthetic success with a perfect connection
ANKYLOS C/X is still a guarantee of long-term tissue retention and a lasting esthetic result with the keyed and friction-locked ANKYLOS TissueCare Connection, which provides equal stability between implant and abutment to that of a single-component implant system. There is virtually no micromovement between implant and abutment, which almost completely eliminates mechanical irritation. Even gap formation between implant and abutment is minimized, preventing bacterial colonization. And finally the geometry of the TissueCare Connection transfers the connection between implant and abutment to a central point. This system-independent platform shifting establishes a wide horizontal base on the implant shoulder for stable deposition of hard tissue and soft tissue. The interplay of all these factors establishes genuine TissueCare, which means the desired long-term tissue retention and correspondingly reliable long-term esthetics.
Outstanding esthetic results with new prosthetics
Every indication requires its own restoration. The new ANKYLOS Regular "C/" and "/X" prosthetic components incorporate feedback from dental technicians. A enlarged abutment head helps reduce casting problems. The reversed, now convex sulcus geometry offers greater options for customization and enables an improved emergence profile. The well-known sulcus margins of 0.75 mm to 4.5 mm are now supplemented by the missing angulations up to 37.5 degrees. All abutments are prepared for a multifunctional snap-on cap. The prosthetic components are marked with "C/" for taper for the non-indexed type and with "/X" for the indexed type. All components marked "C/X" can be used for both types.
Accurate placement with simple seating procedure
ANKYLOS C/X has a clear step between the implant and the seating coping. This helps the implantologist to position the implant accurately. There is an edge on the seating coping 1 mm above the implant shoulder to indicate the depth of the implant for subcrestal placement. A second groove at 3 mm is designed to assist with estimating the thickness of the gingiva for a flapless procedure.
In contract to the former adapter screw, the new seating coping connects directly to the tapered geometry. This ensures a more stable connection between coping and instrument and additional security when screwing in the implants. The cover screw for implants is now included in the package and is only inserted if submerged healing is wanted. The implant is closed with a gingiva former for transgingival healing or fitted with an abutment for immediate restoration.
The implant shuttle for safe handling
The new package design by DENTSPLY Friadent ensure easy removal of the implant and maximum safety in every phase of treatment. The newly designed implant shuttle can be handed to the implantologist by the assistant without difficulty and without contact. The implant is fully protected by the special, easily gripped plastic holder, in which it fits perfectly. The ergonomic design of the shuttle makes it easy and comfortable for the implantologist to remove the implant with the seating instrument. The shuttle is sealed in a double-sterile blister package to ensure maximum safety in every phase of treatment – conforming to the increasingly rigid regulations for packaging medical devices.
The option of indexing
With the new ANKYLOS C/X the implantologist now has the choice of selecting a tapered connection only or an indexed connection. The indexing is provided by the abutment. The dentist can decide at the start of the prosthetic restoration whether to use the freely positionable TissueCare connection or use it with an index. The indexing gives the user the option of placing the abutment in one of six indexed positions, which makes it unnecessary to use to the transfer tray. The keyed and friction-locked tapered connection offers optimum stability and rotation-locking with both options.
A progressive thread for accurate force application
The progressive thread design of ANKYLOS implants, unchanged for 20 years and clinically proven, is ideally designed for the structure of the bone. The thread depth, which increases towards the apex of the implant, transfers the load to the softer cancellous bone. The curved profile of the thread pitch transfers lateral forces to the bone. These two factors helps transfer loads away from the cortical bone and ensure retention of the crestal bone.
Microstructure promotes ankylotic healing
To ensure successful treatment, ANKYLOS C/X implants have the clinically proven, growth-activating FRIADENT plus surface. The microstructure promotes the deposition of bone-forming cells. The formation of new bone is encouraged by the fast formation of a dense fibrin network over the whole surface, assisting the implants to heal faster and with greater stability.
