DENTSPLY Friadent. Our path.
Wherever a gap in your teeth appears, we close it. That is our passion – today and in the past. More than 400 employees at our headquarters in Mannheim are working together to research, develop, manufacture and market innovative products of the best quality. Nothing will change in our 'Made in Germany’ base in the future; quite the opposite: we will continue to develop our leading position. We develop implantology concepts and products for you and your patients based on our three decades of expertise and experience.
Are you interested in our most important milestones? You can see our significant developments in summary below:
Best material. Auspicious beginning.
In 1974 we made a successful start in the implant business. The Baden-Württemberg state government established a special research program to develop the state's ceramic industry. Working together with the University of Tübingen the current DENTSPLY Friadent participated as an industrial partner in the development of the Tübingen immediate implant. In the same year we introduced our intramobile cylinder implant – better known as the IMZ system. Its success speaks for itself: far more than 1,000,000 IMZ implants in 25 years – proven, stable and reliable.
Deeply rooted. Successful breakthrough.
In 1980 FRIALIT was officially approved. The first root-analog implant in the world became the market leader. The medical device division expanded steadily – under the leadership of Friedrichsfeld GmbH ceramics and plastics company.
In 1987 Degussa Dental developed the ANKYLOS system, with a keyed and friction-locked connection, and successfully introduced it in clinical use. It is also marked by total stability. In the same year the concept of bar-prosthesis immediate loading after Ledermann, the precursor of the FRIALOC system, was developed. This subsequently became the XiVE TG system.
In 1988 FRIOS Algipore, a natural bone replacement material based on algae, was ready for the grafting market. The continuing development of FRIALIT was also started – based on comprehensive studies and current medical and technical knowledge.
Effective developments. Continuous growth.
In 1990 our innovative concept for a deep internal implant-abutment connection with internal hex was successfully implemented.
In 1992 we worked with DPS to develop the first grit-blasted and acid-etched implant surface in the world and introduced FRIALIT-2 – optimized, fully developed, well documented and proven by clinical trials.
We think simply and practically. This is why we were the first manufacturer in the world to color-code all our systems in 1993.
In 1994 ANKYLOS was officially placed on the market after six years of clinical testing.
In 1996 PEPGEN P-15, our synthetic material for effective bone regeneration by a bone mimic effect (biomimetics), became available for clinical use.
In 1997 the Balance line was introduced for ANKYLOS. The prefabricated, customizable abutments offer excellent esthetics. FRIALIT with CeraBase and AuroBase also has innovative prosthetic options. And for the temporary restoration: FRIADENT ProTect.
In 1999 FRIALIT again introduced an innovative implant design: the stepped screw Synchro.
Trail-breaking research. International success.
Since 2001 we have been part of DENTSPLY International, the leading American dental company – the name is derived from the "DENTists' SupPLY Company". The synergy effects have been outstanding: combined expertise and experience in dentistry for holistic dental medicine and improved economic potential.
In 2001 we successfully completed the studies on the innovative XiVE implant system and started to introduce it to the market. With exciting results: immediate loading, extremely versatile and excellent primary stability in all bone qualities with the patented thread design and bone-specific preparation protocol. In addition, the first CERCON abutments of zirconium oxide became available for ANKYLOS and an extremely patient-friendly concept for easy, fast and economical restoration of the edentulous lower jaw could be offered with ANKYLOS SynCone.
In 2002 XiVE TG plus was introduced to the market – the transgingival solution for accelerated implant therapy.
In 2003 the XiVE and FRIALIT implant systems were introduced with the FRIADENT plus surface – for optimum osseointegration. The specially designed grit-blasted and etched surface forms the ideal interface between implant and bone, resulting in very successful, fast and long-term healing of the implant.
In 2004 all ANKYLOS implants had the standard-setting FRIADENT plus surface.
Since 2005 stepps, our unique customized customer success program, has been available. Our comprehensive practice marketing and practice management concept offers printed and online media for the dental practice, communication seminars, marketing consultation and manuals for establishing implantology partnerships.
It is ready for immediate use, as individual as your own dental practice, and ideally suited for successful patient acquisition.
In 2006 we introduced the new surgical unit, FRIOS Unit S/i, to the market – including newly developed and demountable FRIOS handpieces and contra-angle handpieces.
In 2007 we presented the TissueCare Concept for long-term retention of tissue stability at a European Roadshow. The introduction of new surgical kits has optimized user guidance and, particularly for XiVE, has greatly reduced the number of instruments (Lean Surgery) - for even faster surgical procedures.
In 2008 ANKYLOS C/X was introduced to the market: the new ANKYLOS generation with the option of indexing. Indexed components for placement of abutments in one of six possible positions with a location tool. Non-indexed abutments are used when a freely positionable solution is more advantageous.
Continuous development. Exciting perspectives.
In 2008 we introduced ExpertEase – Creating Dental Excellence, predictable treatment planning of implants. Computer-supported planning, patient-specific surgical templates and a specially developed drill system make implant placement easier, safer and more successful. We are also increasing our range of CERCON abutments – for brilliant esthetic perspectives.
MISSION STATEMENT
"We actively support our worldwide customers in establishing and developing implant dentistry as a future-oriented treatment option by ensuring their and our long-term success.
This will be achieved via an economically efficient and highly performing organization, first class products and consistent training and commitment of our employees."
