The red dot design prize is one of the most desirable quality labels for outstanding design culture in the world. This year DENTSPLY Friadent of Mannheim received an award for the new implant package design for the worldwide brands ANKYLOS, XiVE and FRIALIT. The seal of quality is awarded annually for demanding and innovative design at the international red dot design award competition.
Only 6.5 percent of all submission actually received an award – the competition is hard, and only the best, most creative submissions in the twelve categories of the competition reached the red dot standard according to the very critical jury, according to Professor Dr. Peter Zec, director of the North Rhine-Westphalia Design Center and initiator of the red dot design award.
The combination of function and form particularly impressed the jury
The jury of 14 internationally known design experts honored the newly designed implant holder, referred to as the implant shuttle. It allows implants to be handed to the surgeon by the assistant during the operation without contact. The specially designed, easily held plastic holder provides perfect protection and security against contamination in every phase of treatment. It is also sealed sterile in double blister packs.
The new package design was also a winner.
The color of the implant is shown against a white background, such as turquoise for ANKYLOS or red for XiVE. DENTSPLY Friadent has also designed the package for optimum storage of implants. All relevant information such as implant brand, size and diameter are printed on three sides of the box. Users can still read the important information whether the boxes are stacked horizontally or vertically.
This year the jury judged almost 6000 entries from 39 countries in the red dot communication design award. A total of 381 entries were awarded prizes. All prize-winners will be exhibited in the red dot design museum in Essen from December 4, 2008, to January 11, 2009.
