Scientific cooperation between DENTSPLY Friadent and the Graz University Hospital

DENTSPLY Friadent, one of the world leaders in implant-supported dental solutions, will be working with another hospital. the Graz University Hospital for Dental, Oral and Orthodontic Medicine of the State Hospital (LKH).

The Graz hospital concentrates on implantology and augmentation surgery. The Graz university hospital has many years of experience with the placement of XiVE and FRIALIT implants in a comprehensive database, in which more than 9500 cases using implants from various manufacturers from the early 1980s to now are documented and archived. This makes it one of the largest implant databases anywhere and it contains detailed information on the success rates of the implant placements based on preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative parameters.

The close cooperation with a wide range of internationally known research establishments guarantees the clinical efficacy, greatest possible reliability and continuing development of DENTSPLY Friadent products. Training and continuing education of new implantologists is also an important component of the partnership.

The implantology results have been documented in the computerized database under the direction of University Professor Dr. Walther Wegscheider (Graz). Information (success rates) can be retrieved from the database at any time. The success curves are documented and archived based on preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative parameters. In addition to the results of implants from other manufacturers, during this period the results of the XiVE and FRIALIT implant systems from DENTSPLY Friadent were inserted as a priority. The data are being used for training and continuing education of dental students and for all employed dentists. Training and continuing education of new implantologists is also very important to DENTSPLY Friadent.

The University Hospital for Dental, Oral and Orthodontic Surgery at the state hospital in Graz has become a leader in clinical research in implantology and augmentation surgery in recent years under the direction of Professor Wegscheider. He considers the implant-borne denture to be the best form of restoration of all types of dentures. Professor Wegscheider has also been the director of the clinical department of dental prosthetics (one of the largest in Europe) since October 1, 2008, and has been speaker of the dental study commission and director of studies of the Medical University of Graz since 2004.
