Healing of wound and bone.
The gum normally heals quickly and painlessly. The sutures can normally be removed two weeks after the operation.
During the bone healing phase new bone cells are deposited all over the implants. DENTSPLY Friadent implants have a unique special microrough and cell-bonding surface structure to encourage this. This means that the implant heals gradually in its optimum position. This process takes four to six months in the upper jaw. The bone in the lower jaw is harder, so the healing process is completed after only three to four months. During this period you will continue to use your modified denture or precisely fitted provisional components – you will not have to give up anything. With some care you will be able to eat quite normally.
Implant uncovery. Placement of the denture or bridge.
Once the implants are securely in position and healed, the gum above the implants is carefully opened again. Your implantologist places gingiva formers on the implants. They shape the gum over about two weeks so it will be in close contact with the subsequent crowns – so they will look perfectly natural and there will be no visible gaps. Then an impression of your jaw is taken. This is the customized template for your final prosthesis. The implantologist will then replace the temporary denture.
After two weeks it is time for the next step. The gingiva formers are removed and the final restoration is seated. If you are to receive a fixed bridge, it will be screwed firmly to the implants by a retainer system. An implant-borne prosthesis is attached to the new roots by a two-component retainer system: one component is permanently anchored to the implant, the mating component is attached to the prosthesis. When the prosthesis is seated the two components are clicked together. Fixed and stable – indistinguishable from your natural teeth. It is easy to remove the prosthesis for cleaning and then replace it.
Exception for immediate loading.
However, if the dentist finds that your bone situation meets the requirements, immediate loading of the implants is also possible. This means that your prosthesis with retainer components is attached immediately to the freshly placed implants you receive your implants and have fixed, natural looking teeth on the same day. Ask your implantologist about this option.
