04.12.2009 | Dr. Werner Groll, managing director of DENTSPLY Friadent, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the company

Employees of DENTSPLY Friadent are celebrating a significant milestone this year. The company can congratulate its managing director along with long-term associates on 25 years of successful work. With Dr. Werner Groll the DENTSPLY Friadent company has not not only a man with vision. For more than a quarter of a century the current managing director has proven that quality and integrity are rewarded with success. At the youthful age of 55 years Dr. Groll has become known as an elder statesman in the world of implantology and his name stands for competence and continuity in dental implantology.

High demands for quality from the start

A short time after he started with the company in 1984 it was clear that Dr. Groll's career would be in the world of dental implantology. On June 1, 1987, he was appointed group manager of dental materials in the metallurgical research division. In 1993, only six years later, he was appointed manager of the newly established implant division, where he played a major role in setting its direction. In the following years Dr. Groll continually expanded the implant division and worked hard to grow the business.

He demonstrated his vision when he took over the NM System, developed by Georg-Hubertus Nentwig and Walter Moser, from Krupp Medizintechnik in 1993 and developed it into a world-leading implant system under the Ankylos name. Professor Nentwig (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University Hospital, Center for Dental, Oral and Orthodontics, Teaching Hospital for Dental Surgery) recalls: "At that time the design principles of the special thread and tapered connection were still misunderstood. Now they have been proven to be significant milestones on the path to modern implant systems."

Top priority for personal contact

With his business decisions based on vision, entrepreneurial spirit and customer contact, Dr. Groll is primarily responsible for the worldwide success of DENTSPLY Friadent and is always ready to listen to the requirements of customers. Dr. Fred Bergmann, practicing dentist and vice-president of the German Society for Oral Implantology (DGOI), knows this from his own experience: "I know Werner Groll as a reliable, loyal and customer-oriented partner who is always ready to listen suggestions from the world of dental practice. And this is by no means normal for an implant manufacturer!"
